Travel Away with Morgan Nott: "Why the f*ck Not?"

Updated: May 9

I've been dancing around the idea of writing this blog for ages. The big questions loomed over me like a cloud of doubt: "Do I have anything worth saying? Do people even care about my ramblings?" Well, after much soul-searching and a hefty dose of encouragement from fellow globetrotters I've met along the way, I thought, "Why the f*ck not?"

So, here I am – a full-time traveler (& fingers crossed, a blogger if this post doesn't bomb). Consider me your go-to gal for travel f*ck-ups, reporting back so you can sidestep the pitfalls of your own adventures ;)

If you ever told me I would be living out of a suitcase, I'd probably have chuckled alongside you. Back in the day when grown-ups asked, "What will you be when you grow up?" most kids aimed for the stars – doctors, nurses, singers, or sportsmen. Me? I confidently declared my future as a traveling gypsy, earning a few sideways glances & some hearty chuckles.

With my childhood dreams of traveling the world on an open road, I find myself now in a bustling airport, contemplating where my next adventure will take me. Life as a solo female traveler? Well, it's a rollercoaster (and trust me, I've ridden my fair share of ups & downs). That's why I'm writing this post & launching this blog to spill the tea on all the tips I've gathered – the ones I wish I had known sooner.

If you've stumbled upon my musings, welcome! I hope the little nuggets of wisdom I share come in handy on your solo escapades!

My true traveling story started at the ripe age of 18 when I kicked off my global gallivanting with a solo flight to the USA. From the frosty embrace of Boston, I journeyed my way to the golden handcuff allure of San Francisco. Post-American escapades, I found myself in Stellenbosch, chasing dreams & clinching a BA degree. A brief stint in the corporate world (quickly realizing it wasn't my jam) led me to Sri Lanka for a two-month volunteer gig. Spoiler alert: those two months multiplied, and as the world hit pause in 2020, I found myself crafting a life in Sri Lanka that prioritised routes over roots.

Here we are today & it all started with an itch in the back of my mind that whispered, "Psst, there's a whole world of cool stuff out there waiting for you." Fast forward a decade, and guess what? That itch is still there, urging me to seek out new cultures, devour exotic foods, and dive headfirst into unforgettable experiences. Oh, and let's not forget about the eclectic cast of characters I've encountered – from a French gal with an obsession for pink to a Portuguese chicken in Ponta (yes, you read that right), a Swahili taxi driver named Dani, and a few love-struck boys along the way.

Let's talk about my upcoming adventures and what this blog is all about. Picture this: we're cruising up the vibrant coastline of South Africa, starting in the Mother City herself, Cape Town. But we're not just taking the main highways and checking off tourist traps. No, my dear readers, we're diving deep into the heart of this stunning country. I'm going to spill all the beans on surf spots that are perfect for beginners and those looking for a bit more thrill. Think gentle waves and sandy shores, with a dash of adrenaline for good measure.

But wait, there's more! This isn't just a surfers' paradise tour. We're also going to uncover all the hidden gems along the South African coastline. From quirky cafés serving up the best chai lattes to secret coves where dolphins frolic, I'll be your guide to the offbeat and unforgettable.

Stay tuned for tales of triumphs, mishaps, and everything in between.

And hey, don't be shy – let me know what you think of this delightful little blog of mine! Your thoughts fuel my adventures, after all.
